RegionCisterna d'Asti is a small DOC of the Piedmont wine region in the far northwest of Italy, created in 2002. Unlike the case with Barbera d'Asti DOCG or many other local DOCs, Cisterna is not a grape variety. This title covers red wines produced around the village of Cisterna d'Asti, and neigboring communes right in the centre of Piedmont. Cisterna d'Asti wine is made predominantly from Croatina, which must account for 80 percent of the blend. The balance may consist of other non-aromatic red varieties sanctioned under Piedmont's wine laws. Grapes used to make wines sold under other local DOCs (Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto) are the obvious candidates. |

Food PairingEnjoy with herb-grilled or rotisserie chicken, light fish and pasta dishes, or mixed snack plates including cheeses, fruits, and nuts. |
Tasting NotesAn intense bouquet of grapefruit, pineapple, peach and fresh blossoms spoils our nose. The mouth feel is soft, fresh and pure. Nice balance and a hint of almond in the aftertaste. |
